Man arraigned in Platte County on assault charge

A 25 year old Columbus man Roger Fox was arraigned in Platte County Court on a misdemeanor assault charge. Police say on July 19 he fired a pistol at a building where Mrs. Nicholas Mizlak stood. He posted a $500 bond and trial was set for Sept. 4.

Three Arrested on Drug Offenses in Platte County

Platte County Sheriff Don Franzen says three people were arrested Wednesday night on drug charges. Robert Coyle Jr., 23, of Columbus and formerly of California, faces contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of marijuana. Kathleen J. Sargent, 18, of Columbus, is charged with possession of marijuana, as is a 15 year old. The trio was nabbed at a rural trailer court by deputies, state patrol, and Columbus police.

Job Service reports July 875 job seekers in Columbus area

An 875 job seekers register at Columbus Job Service on Aug 1, similar to last month but over double the year ago total. The report notes 525 female workers, 345 under 22, 136 age 45 or older, with 482 on temporary layoff.

Lloyd W. Newsom 21 of Council Bluffs Iowa died in a head on collision on U S 81 north of Columbus Nebraska. Carroll J Niemeyer Hein man suffered leg and shoulder injuries in the crash. A third vehicle driven by John Magsamen struck Niemeyer s car. Dennis W Pattite 17 of Sprague died in a one car crash near Crete. Terry L Lesping 24 of Lincoln died from injuries in a two car collision near Fairmont.
