Chavez wins grape battle with boycott over strikes
Cesar Chavez and the UFWOC used a nation wide grape boycott to pressure California growers. Facing legal limits on farm worker representation, thousands of producers signed contracts this spring granting about 1.75 dollars per hour and 30 cents per box incentive pay, lifting roughly three quarters of California table grapes under union labels. Prominent supporters helped drive broad public backing for the effort.
