Public housing may go to suburbs under new policy
Washington officials indicate the Nixon administration will unveil significant changes to desegregate public and federally funded housing by shifting new public housing construction from all black ghetto areas to suburbs. Justice official Jervis Leonard said ending new suburban housing in all black areas is correct, citing possible legal issues but a push to set aside areas for such housing. He also noted possible declines in statewide desegregation suits in the South as voluntary compliance grows.
