Behlen Hospital Renamed Columbus Community Hospital

Behlen Community Hospital voters approve changing the hospital name to Columbus Community Hospital effective immediately. The merger of St Marys Hospital and Behlen Hospital in 1972 aims to centralize services at the former Lutheran Hospital site with expanded emergency and outpatient care, obstetrics, and a 71 to 81 bed capacity upgrade.

Columbus High Musicians Earn 17 Superior Ratings at Contest

Carter Seeks Victory in Pennsylvania Primary Against Jackson Udall

In Pittsburgh and across Pennsylvania, Jimmy Carter urged large turnout to blunt Henry Jackson and Morris Udall as voters faced cold, wintry conditions. Early reports noted light Democratic participation among about 2.8 million registered voters, with temperatures in the 30s to mid-40s and occasional snow flurries. UNL Students Eligible for City Summer Work Program

Columbus approves a university work study contract allowing 11 UNL students to work in City departments this summer earning a salary funded largely by UNL and the city. Half of earnings support education. no academic credit. Eligibility follows university guidelines and targets low to middle income families.

Candidates Forum May 5 in Columbus Nebraska

A candidates forum is scheduled for 7 30 p m Wednesday May 5 at the Nebraska Public Power District auditorium. The Columbus League of Women Voters sponsors the event to be moderated by Zehring and open to the public. Invited are candidates James Case Evelyn Kusek and Ray Micek with one to be nominated for the November mayoral race. George Johansen Sr is the Republican candidate for mayor. Ten candidates for six Columbus City Schools District I Board seats will also speak briefly and answer questions. Nominees include Stewart Abel Ronald Apthorpe James Ball Delbert Benedict Fred Koerwitz Dave Mullin Jerry Roth Ed Stauber Robert Slusarski and John Tooley.
