Exon's veto shocks Nebraska university leader
D B Varner president of the University of Nebraska says he is flabbergasted and disappointed by Gov Exon's veto of LB179 which would let the university use Hi ram Scott College in Scottsbluff for rural health training and expanded agricultural research. Varner said he had expected Exon to approve and noted he has not spoken with the governor about the veto. He pushed that the campus would strengthen agriculture and health care and that the amendment from Senator Carpenter aimed to allay fears of competition with local colleges. Varner sent Exon a letter April 11 urging approval and enclosing a prepared statement and a copy of Carpenter's amendment.
