Hearing on economics of female workers in Nebraska

An Omaha AP report covers a two hour hearing before the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women. Marilyn Major cites US figures showing women earn an average of 3 661 less than men in Nebraska, with Black women hit harder. Dr Linda Pratt notes NU Lincoln critical workers are 96 percent women earning 3363 to 5000 yearly. only 2 percent at top rate. Donna Polk argues absentee rates are not much higher for women. Leigh Garden Club members plan to participate in the District IV Nebraska Federation of Garden Clubs spring conference at Elks Lodge in Norfolk. The agenda includes ecology talks by state president Mrs. Ted Lindquist, a Q and A with first vice president Mrs. Gilbert Troutman, annual club reports led by Leigh president Mrs. Mabel Granlowicz, a five minute Arbor Day skit, a plant sale, flower arranging, and officer elections with noon luncheon reservations requested.

North Platte woman donates annually to cancer fund

Grace Justis of North Platte, who turns 83 May 13, contributes yearly to the Cancer Crusade. This year she gave 380 dollars, following 250 in 1970 and 20 in 1969. Her son Merwin, who died 1967 at age 6 from a Tate type cancer, left 5,000 dollars to the Cancer Fund.
