Howard Brown of 766 22nd Avenue defied a failing heart with a St. Joseph Hospital operation led by Dr Mohiuddin. After 19 days in hospital he recovered to walk a mile daily, take two pills, and praise surgery as a life changer for those medically suitable.
CHS plans rites for graduates with baccalaureate service at 8 p.m. May 22 in the Senior High Auditorium led by Rev. Philip Bede and a commencement at 8 p.m. May 23 in the Senior High Gymnasium. Diplomas will be conferred by William Redrow and Principal Jim Sterup. Dr. H. Vaughn Phelps, superintendent of Omaha Westside, delivers the commencement address.
Sherry Lee Clarke and Albert Jackson of Allentown Pa wed on the Empire State Building observation deck with champagne, a plastic flower trellis, and a King Kong poster in attendance. The bride, a divorcee with three children, said the skyscraper wedding followed two years of planning and that they will honeymoon later after a brief NYC TV appearance.
The seventh annual Platte College Fine Arts Festival runs April 30 to May 2 with about 500 student artworks judged for awards. Ray Replogle of Wayne State College will judge. Film classics open the festival with free admission, then music, chorus, and drama performances, including three one-act plays and a dramatic lineup featuring An Inspector Answers and Sorry Wrong Number.
President Carter says he remains open to sizable business tax incentives but will review the final bill before signing. Senate votes rejected dropping business cuts while boosting incentives to 4.1 billion over two years, with GOP moves to add more individual cuts.
A Russian TU96 Bear reconnaissance bomber reportedly crossed into international airspace and passed within tens of miles of a US Navy task force about 60 miles off Florida. Pentagon and defense officials described a low altitude approach but offered no protest plans. Radar and interceptor jets from Seymour Johnson AB scrambled but could not prevent the overflight.
