Markets show hogs 50 lower at Omaha with some weights under 230 pounds dropping while 290 260 and 2550 higher than late sales. Cattle and calves trade steady to higher for some loads, cows slow, feeder sales steady with several loads of prime slaughter steers and heifers listed. Sheep receipts about 1,000, market notes show activity dampened near 10:30 a.m. Estimated Tuesday receipts set for cattle and calves around 5, hogs 5, sheep 700.

Matulka Named Regional Winner in Nationwide Scholarship

David City sophomore Gerald Z. Matulka of East Buller High School Brainard is among four Nebraskans chosen as regional winners in Exploration Scholarships. Regional winners will be invited to join field research expeditions in archaeningy astronomy ecology geology and marine sciences organized by Questional Expeditions International in Belmont Mass. Applications advance to the U.S. Office of Education in Washington DC. National winners will be selected April 26.

KLAMATH FALLS Ore AP a man identified as Gordon Everett Beckman 49 of Omaha was found dead on railroad tracks Friday state police said he was apparently run over by a switch engine the incident occurred in Oregon confirming an Omaha resident casualty on the rails with police attributing the death to a train impact.

Colfax deputies probe theft of chicks and posts

SCHUYLER Colfax County Sheriff's Office investigates the theft of 50 white guinea chicks from the Wagner Game Farm northwest of here during the night Wednesday. The chicks were valued at 70 cents each. Nearly 200 steel posts were stolen from a field northwest of here at Consolidated Blenders, valued at more than $2 each.
