Leigh girl starts work in Omaha welfare bureau

Elaine Grana towicz daughter of Mrs Mabel Granatowicz of Leigh has begun work in Omaha for the Douglas County Welfare Bureau. She has been employed in Lincoln since graduating from the University of Nebraska last spring. Mr and Mrs Stanley Granatowicz and their boys of Omaha visited his mother and uncle at 5 Woodward Street over the weekend.

GM Chief Aims Near Zero Emissions by 1975

Detroit United Press International reports General Motors President Edward N Cole predicts the internal combustion engine will remain the main auto power source for at least two more decades while testing catalytic converters to reduce hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. He foresees near zero pollution within four years and production feasibility by 1974 to 1975 with unleaded gasoline and alternative fuels considered, favoring the internal combustion engine over other options.

Boone farmers enroll in grain program

More than 1,200 Boone County farmers with feed grain bases totaling 156,009 acres are enrolled in the 1910 Feed Grain program, intending to divert 63,483 acres from production. The 1969 program enrolled over 65 thousand acres with 73,340 acres diverted.

Five area students shine at NMTA district auditions

Miss Tsabella Micek’s piano pupils stood out at the 1970 central district auditions of the Nebraska Music Teachers Association held at Hastings College. Grace Rathkamp Tamm Olk Wanetta Salal Kim Cromwell Berky Croker earned highly superior or superior ratings, qualifying for the state NMTA auditions in November. About ninety prepped piano students entered Saturday’s event.
