Lincoln Neb AP Dr Virginia Trotter University of Nebraska vice chancellor said Thursday she was very pleased with nomination as secretary of education in the Department of Health Education and Welfare. The President told her he was delighted to have a woman in such a high post and one of the highest ranking appointed women in Washington. She said she hopes to be judged on qualifications rather than gender.
Gov. J James Exon told a Senate Agriculture and Forestry hearing that a National Food and Fiber Board is needed to stabilize prices and secure long term food and fiber production. He warned recent price collapses show planning gaps and predicted world power could hinge on affordable food rather than oil.
