Butz Warns on Spending Amid Recession Inflation Risk

Lincoln Nebraska Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz told the Nebraska Press Association that spending too much to stimulate the economy could trigger another bout of inflation. He warned deficits may total 80 to 100 billion dollars next year and that the government may need 17.5 billion more before June 30. Butz urged fiscal sanity, noting rising government share of earnings and potential strain on the bond market. He also touted agriculture exports and stable grain acreage, stressing no government payments to cut farm production.
