Souvanna ready to ask U S to stop most of bombing

Educational Service Unit No. 7 Attends Joint Workshops

Representatives Yom Kolrous and Norman Ronoll of Educational Service Unit No. 7 participated in a two day Hutchinson Kansas workshop on understanding and educating children with perceptual handicaps. Sponsored by Hutchinson Public Schools and the American Institute for Developmental Education, the event featured Jay Yanoff and covered identification and programming for learning disabilities. Additionally Unit 7 staff joined Nebraska Educational Media Association and Nebraska Library Association meeting in Lincoln with keynote by Thomas N. Keating.

Scholarships Awarded by Union Pacific to 4H Members

Scholarships totaling 7200 dollars have been given to 35 Nebraska 4H club members by Union Pacific Railroad for use at the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture and Economics. Each scholarship is 200 dollars, awarded in counties where the railroad operates. Scout Roundtable to Launch Fun Fair Ticket Sale

The Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders roundtable at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Columbus will feature the kickoff for Fun Fair ticket sales. Jim Gaines, Columbus Jaycee general chairman, announced the sponsorship with scouts. Jack Main handles ticket distribution with the theme Years of Scouting. Dr. Bruce Cowgill of the Nebraska State Game Commission will present Nebrakaland Acres for Wildlife. Leaders will discuss the Spring Camporee and a fishing derby, while Cub Scouts plan May activities on Mother Nature’s Backyard.

Firefighters aid St Edward department in grass fires

Genoa area crews fought grass fires yesterday with mutual aid calls to assist the St Edward department. Two separate incidents required on call and off duty help to control the flames and prevent spread.

Israeli planes strike into Egypt near Suez Canal

Israeli warplanes penetrated about 20 miles into Egypt returning after a two hour raid along the Suez Canal. The targets were Egyptian military installations, with two Israeli soldiers killed and five wounded in the canal-area fighting. The attack followed Dayan’s warning to the Soviets amid reports of SAM3 missile installations and Soviet advisers in Egypt.

Wind-fanned fires scorch Nebraska amid extreme danger

High winds and dry conditions sparked numerous grass and brush fires across Nebraska. Fire officials banned outdoor fires as teams from Superior, Guide Rock, Deshler, Hardy and Nelson battled a 1500 acre blaze near Superior for hours. Three firemen were injured in Wayne while responding to multiple calls and a North Loup worker was injured when blown from a rail car. Traffic restrictions occurred along US 34 near Seward due to low visibility and accidents.

Tax payments from Loup Power District to counties

Loup Power District in Platte Nance Boone and Colfax Counties recently delivered in lieu of tax payments totaling $87,000 plus $137,782.00 to county treasurers. In three months Platte County received $62,158.67. Funds are distributed to municipalities and schools served by the district.
