The Associated Press reports two school bond issues in northeastern Nebraska split. At Wausa, residents approved a $547,000 bond 414 to 27 and Meadow Grove Tilden District 80 failed 392 to 233 on a $1.2 million request.
Markets in Omaha show direct cattle trade and hog prices with mixed results. Hogs under 270 pounds steady to 25 higher while over 270 pounds drop 25 to 75. cattle and calves receipts total 4,500 with steers and heifers mostly lower. Estimated Thursday receipts project cattle and calves 600, hogs 4,50, sheep 100.

Two Schuyler accidents were reported over the weekend. David Coufal received bruises after a motorcycle crash at 1éth and B S streets and was treated at Memorial Hospital. Gary L. McAuliffe’s 74 model car flipped onto its top in water near a bridge northeast of town with $1,000 damage to the vehicle and $75 to the bridge. no injuries to McAuliffe or passenger.
The Rev. Emmett Meyer of Columbus, state chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, was guest speaker at the annual recognition banquet for the CCD teachers of four Polk County parishes Saturday at the American Legion Hall in Shelby. Robert Lux of Osceola was awarded Knight of the Year honors. Social hour began at 7 p.m. followed by a banquet served by guild members of Sacred Heart Parish, Shelby.
A joint committee staff report urged President Nixon to pay 476431 in back taxes for 1969 to 1972. The recommendation cites a $483,018 deduction for gifts of papers and unreported capital gains from 1970 and 1969 reforms, with the committee not judging the report’s merits.
AP dispatch reports a House vote approving bonuses up to 15 000 dollars yearly to recruit doctors dentists veterinarians and optometrists into the all volunteer military. The measure goes to a compromise conference with a Senate bill allowing 12 000 for doctors only. Also from Nashville Gov Dunn vetoes a bill banning cohabitation of male and female college students on campus, saying the rule unfairly assumes promiscuity only among students.
The Sting wins seven Oscars including best picture at the Academy Awards, beating The Exorcist while Glenda Jackson and Jack Lemmon take acting honors. David Niven hosts as a streaker interrupts the ceremony and Katharine Hepburn and Groucho Marx receive tributes.
