Tuesday near Newbern Henry Hilger rode with a buggy when a frightened horse backed down a steep embankment. The near miss was saved at the last moment and damages were slight. Names of the buggy occupants could not be learned. Bagged twelve squirrels in Newbern neighborhood by Joe Gable and Billy Adams Tuesday.
Charles Fuqua travels to Michigan hoping to secure steady employment. He intends to find jobs and establish earnings stability in a new location.
The funeral was held from the family residence in Elizabethtown and interment followed at Section cemetery. The service was largely attended by mourners and friends.
A. E. Hartman at the John Gent Flouring Mill on Franklin street buys and ships butter eggs and poultry with special prices. Constable Gable makes an arrest arresting Martha Kayser and W E Conner of Haw Creek township for assault and battery on E W McAshlan. Case set for trial today before Justice Dennison.
A lively Edinburg social crowd traveled to the city on Tuesday evening in two buckboards. They were entertained by local friends during their stay.
The Cook brick block at the corner of Second and Jackson streets is ready for carpenters after completing brick work. It is expected to be one of the citys most handsome business blocks.

Capt Beeler, general agent of Anciser Busch Brewing Co, visited the city Tuesday and held a reception at the St Denie bar where Mum's Extra Dry Champaign flowed freely. He is noted as a genial man with many warm friends in the city.
Miss Amy Woolley hosted a Wednesday evening at the corner of Seventh and Chestnut streets. Guests enjoyed conversation and music by the Manhattan Mandolin Club. Amos Hartman leaves Hartman & Davis on Jackson Street and resumes business at the former Gent site on Franklin Street. He anticipates a large trade as he restarts operations in the same locale.
Indianapolis defeats Minneapolis in a doubleheader as Kellum and Flynn pace the Hoosiers. Kellum pitched seven strong innings in the finale and managers rest pitchers for Columbus games ahead. Jerry Pittman known across this and Brown County as a staunch Democrat told the Star yesterday that prosperity had surely arrived with ninety cent wheat and twenty five cent corn. He said these prices convinced him of the new era.

Frank Newcomb of this city will wed Miss Sullivan of Waymansville next week. He is sober and industrious and will be a good partner for life. Miss Sullivan is spoken of highly where she is known. Frank works with his uncle in the feed business on Jackson street.
Geo Waltz of Edinburg was injured while aiding timber cutting for the Maley saw mill when a timber trap crushed his leg between the ankle and knee. He was two hours returning to town before a doctor could treat the injury, and Dr Myrers dressed the wound.
Albert McGaw son of John McGaw of near this city writes from Alaska that after two or three years away he is worth several thousand dollars and invites his brother Sherman to come, even if he has to walk. The family, once living west of here, learns he is alive and prospering.
Frank Schwab, a respected German resident, suffered serious injuries in a runaway horse accident while en route to Waymansville. The buggy was smashed, he was thrown clear, and Dr. Ralphy treated head wounds and internal injuries. Also noted, Alaska winter mortality risk cited in government correspondence. Mrs. Will Mooney visited Indianapolis yesterday.
Attended Conference. Rev Greassie of the German M E church went to Columbus this morning to attend conference. Brown County's World's Fair will commence September 14 and run four days. It promises to be largely attended. Mrs Frank Toohey improved after sudden illness at Mitt Pfeifer's residence Tuesday evening of heart fatigue.
Another physician, Tr Mennett, once of Jonesville and later from the Pacific coast, has opened an office in the I.O.O.F. block to practice medicine.
The Salvation Army, based in the Ulrich Block, readies a winter campaign and has erected a new coal shed to support distributions and aid efforts.
Unger and Jones, monument dealers, have a large stock of stone for bases. Several dray loads have been placed in their yard in recent days.
Mrs Mayme Wetzel files in the circuit court for divorce from Sam J Wetzel on abandonment charges with M D Emig as attorney for the plaintiff.
John Eckleberry died Tuesday night at the poor farm and was buried yesterday at 5 pm in Garland Brook cemetery with Rev. Dr. Curtiss conducting the services.
Delegates sent by the Brazilian black coal miners’ aid committee canvassed the city yesterday and received a number of fairly liberal donations.
George Wagner was tried before Justice Dennis on Tuesday for profanity. He was fined $1 plus costs, totaling 20.45 dollars. The case was appealed to the circuit court and Wagner released on a $50 bond.
Road Superintendent Simp Wells remeasured the gravel road line yesterday and found Jesse R Newsom John Reddenbaugh and others had encroached on the road for three feet on each side. New stakes were set and fences moved back. Mr Wells deserves credit for the stand he has taken. We have too few good roads now to allow farmers to plow them up. Let the good work go on.
Mr. Hess of Sohn Brewing Co Cincinnati visits dealers in the city seeking to place an agency for handling the firm's products. He aims to expand distribution and establish local representation.

William Abbott hurt by a horse shows some improvement. William Hamblin on Union Street is better.
Minnie Glick remains ill with stomach congestion but is improved. Frank Harvey shows signs of betterment. John P. Henry and Mary Brockman appear in attendance. The township schools will begin September 13. The son of Frank P. Smith, an agricultural dealer, has diphtheria but improving. case described as light. J L Jones reported conducting business in Hope Saturday. W H Scott and wife attend Shelbyville fair.
The Daily and Weekly Free Press office in ELwoop, Madison County, was sold today to Editor Moffat formerly of Spencer. He assumed control and will pursue a free silver democratic policy.
A barn linked to Polk factory, housing factory horses, was burned at about 4 am. Loss includes $100 in grain, $150 in cans and worn machinery, two horses and five hogs. Total loss estimated at $2,500 with no insurance.
