A ceiling truss collapsed during The Dangers of a Great City at Robertson's Opera House injuring many. Reported dead include an unknown man Miss Lucy Cohen Mrs George Kleeman. seriously or slightly injured include Mr Goldman Mrs Studder Mary Studder and other names. Hospital tally lists three dead and dozens hurt with several potentially needing amputation. Indications point to cooler weather.
John Cain formerly held in North Vernon jail pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year for embezzlement. Shaw his partner faces murder and incest charges. Joseph Hash and Alex Cooper were acquitted by Mayor McDonald of charges as accessories to Joseph Horton’s escape. Evidence showed they borrowed Frank Tully’s horse and buggy to Columbus without intent to steal and without knowledge or consent to the escape, leading to a not guilty verdict.
