A Columbus survey shows about a dozen industrial establishments active with orders ahead and steady staffing. Firms like Ormmoncy Furniture Co, Glanton Furniture, Columbus Handle and Pool Co, and Malley Hard Wood Lumber report favorable conditions. some losses from earlier fires noted, but overall prosperity and ongoing expansion plans are evident.
A 1897 notice from Columbus Indiana merchants pledges to close stores by 8 p m every night except Saturdays and pay nights and to remain shut on Sundays. Signatories include Hilger Strauss Reeves & Co and many others with dates and place noted.
Brisk sales include a road wagon for Sumner Newsom a phaeton for Ben Chambers and another for Mr Kecoureck. Tonight Friday the Y P S C E of the Y Presbytherian Church hosts a Ribbon Social at the P M C A rooms from 7 30 to 9 30 with a silver offering for the Y M C A.

John Schofner northeast of town on Wolf Bros. farm near Columbus fell from a harrow and injured his right wrist. Dr S O Duncan treated him.

A J Dillon, Continental Ins Co agent, left for southern Indiana. John Cramp back from Richmond. Gus Remy in city yesterday. Henry Maley in the city yesterday. Mrs Weaver left for New Albany to stay with relatives. John Robeck, now in Chicago, passed through en route to Nashville centennial. Miss Carter, daughter of Inspector Carter, has returned home from Indianapolis visits. Mrs Abbott returned in October.
Dunlap and Coats of this city win the Medora Jackson county brick school contract for 11800 dollars after bids from trustees. They are expanding locally with a large brick block project at Michell and an Episcopal jadiey minstrel entertainment at Colambug.
The Philadelphia baseball team traveled through Columbus yesterday morning on their way to Louisville for a three game series. The players were described as fine looking men with natty appearance and the club carried themselves well as they moved toward the games.
A Star reporter visits the Crump track to inspect stables and racing stock. James L. Hargis fields four promising horses led by Orange Wilson and Nellie Wilson. Dr. J F Wright showcases Rags by Baronial and other Indiana bred runners. Charles Al Chambers manages ten horses including Hazelwood Bernadette and Antio Wilkes, praised as a premier state stallion. Bartholomew County’s growing turf strength touted for the upcoming season.
Will Carvin and Earle Ensley were seen in Columbus last evening as locals noted their appearance and activity downtown.
