Eddie Foy to perform at Cramp’s Theatre with a notable company and critics praising his latest show.
Word reached this city that champion Bob Fitzsimmons was in a dying condition from punishment in the big day before yesterday’s fight. A hemorrhage was reported and exact cause unknown. If true, Corbett would again be champion. Later reports said Fitzsimmons was dead. Marriage licenses issued include Joseph Wayt to Mary Thayer and Joel Baker to Myrtle Helms.
C. A. Smith buys another fine bloodhound from Galesburg Texas, bringing the total to four skilled hounds for hunting work by the owner.
An all day meeting was held yesterday at the M E church with Pastor Rev Curtiss assisted by Mrs. J S Day E W Titus and Wilson Swengle. The gathering continued last night.

A. Strauss and Joseph Langer consolidate their dry goods business and form Hilger & Strauss Co. Mr Strauss will split time between this city and Seymour. Hilger will manage the firm at the old Joseph Y Hilger stand New Whitehouse. The new firm promises vigorous, profitable operations.
Township reports a weekly average in the $175 to $190 range for aid to the poor. Some residents have continually approached the township trustee for a decade. Columbus township bears a cost comparable to the other thirteen townships as each handles its own paupers.
C P Hanna county clerk and sheriff King were in town yesterday along with Olive Hobbs three year old daughter of Landlord Hobbs of Nashville hotel who suffered scalds from spilled soup. C A House merchant returned to Nashville and others including Mr Brooks from Fitzgerald Ga and Wm Allison Ray Howard of Mt Liberty were seen. John Guthrie superintendent of the poor farm and wife are ill. Henry Moore of Schooner visited and purchased from Schwartzkopf and Son.
On St Patrick's Day about eight o clock in the evening Matt Snively the northside grocer was surprised when about fifty neighbors and relatives crowded his home to celebrate his 49th birthday. The gathering included Emanuel and Nina Snively Montal and Hazel Heath Ada Sprague and families Joe Mansfield Joe Smith Bob Cavanaugh Ed Romine Ed Stofer John Truex James Truex Tom Hull George Sam Smith and William Snively. An elegant luncheon followed and guests departed after a pleasant evening of conversation and music.
City council met at 7 37 p m with all members present except Patterson. Minutes approved. Water and garbage issues discussed including dumping grounds and need to overhaul water due to high waters. A furnace purchase for burning garbage was dropped as too costly. Health officer and garbage committee to secure new dumping grounds. Property owners seek removal of two old houses on Chestnut between Fifth and Eighth. Drainage on Sycamore and California streets noted as bad. A resolution to invite soldiers to hold a state encampment in 1898 and to use city facilities was approved. Claims totaling 479 dollars allowed.
Jefferson County commissioners proposed paying 15000 dollars for fifty one miles of toll roads at a discount of about 23 percent from the appraised valuation. The action was announced at the March 17 meeting by Madison, Inc. and related officials.
Franklin Star reports Thomas Funkhouser of Stones Crossing was riding atop a hay load when a broken rope released a boom pole. The pole struck his face, knocking out several teeth and breaking two ribs as he fell from the load.

Mr Archibald A Gunter, famed American author, wrote this play for the late Annie Pixley who left a fortune of two hundred thousand dollars. He has now cast the production with the popular actress Miss Lillian Kennedy seeking to fill Pixleys famed path.
Shelbyville Inc reports Dr. Ross Wolf sought a writ of mandate after Republicans refused to recognize the circuit court certificate. Court ordered all council members to receive and file the certificate and recognize Wolf as councilman in place of Edward Weakley. Trial date for injunction not yet set.
A newspaper office reports 25 to 50 morning papers stolen over three to four days and two days of unable to fill its exchange list. The note warns the theft must stop and adds a warning to would be offenders.
