Mrs Lynch of Salem Indiana writes to seek information about F Victor Lynch her husband accused of larceny and threatening behavior. She says she only heard of his troubles and seeks details as two grand jury indictments hang over him. The report notes alleged actions in a city hotel thefts and coercive conduct toward a young girl.
The Woman's Missionary society of the Methodist church will hold a thanks offering service next Sunday evening. Mrs. L. Godkinson of Indianapolis and the Willing Workers Mission Band of this city will assist in the program.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the M. E. church will entertain friends at the home of Mrs. George Winans on Wednesday afternoon March 17 from 3 to 5 as the society marks its eleventh anniversary.
Chas Ziegler sold a horse for 95 dollars while Dr Wright's horse also brought 95 at the Cambridge sale. Dr Sims moved two horses to bring 120, Isaac P. Cox sold three for 140, Mrs S Burgess eight for 860. Frank Clark five horses brought 375, John M Davis 125 for one, Jacob Davis two for 185, Henry Palmer netted 525 from Cambridge or horses, Dr Roland bought a Don Felix filly, Marshal Wm Schooler bought a Jimmy Wilson to ride the mayor out.
The state finance board, with the Governor, auditor, and treasurer, notified Bowery Savings Bank of New York that April 1 will see $150,000 of the 32 per cent bonds redeemed from a $350,000 issue. The balance will be redeemed July 1. The 3 per cent bonds are nearly all paid off, except the Pur due University 5 per cent perpetual bonds bearing a gift-like interest. The auditor estimates $700,000 in debt paid this year.
Miss Emma Vonfange entertained friends at her home at the corner of Eleventh and Sycamore streets with cards and amusements followed by light refreshments. The guests praised her as a charming hostess. Joe Young of Maple Grove moved into the horse business with a fine gray horse trained by Frank May. Schnur and Reynolds completed a large Pabst Milwaukee Brewing Co. sign on Fred Kocoureck's building, praised by Pabst traveling men as among the finest in the state.
Geo Mansfield of the Wabash and Geo E Rockwell of the Pennsylvania Company visited the city Wednesday along with John E Turner Geo T Gurnip Capt Weden and M B Austin passenger men. It is stated that on April 1 three thousand railroad repair men idle all winter will be put to work on the Pennsylvania lines east and west. Section gangs will be increased two men bridge gangs doubled and extra gangs laid to lay new rails within sixty days. No 10 the fast mail train north was delayed yesterday due to engine No 915 leaving the track at Chestnut ridge.
Billy Bates once led the Bates Conservatory band in Columbus and is now acclaimed in Chicago as a premier cornet soloist. He helped launch Pink Schnur in music and earned praise from Damrosch and Seidl. A separate meeting in the council chamber, led by Mayor Beck, discussed securing the 1898 G A R state encampment with hopes of hosting five to ten thousand guests.

The sick Miss Maymie Phillips a trimmer at Silvermans is said to be quite ill in Cincinnati after visiting wholesale millinery houses. Willmoore’s three songs Sweet Little Rosey Posey Only Me and The Golden Rule were recorded on Philion and Rapps phonograph yesterday afternoon with Chas E Fisher on guitar. George Friedgen sold his McClellan farm three and a half miles southwest of the city comprising 117 acres to William A. Abbot for $3000 cash. Real estate agency J D Hunter facilitated the transaction.
The school records a new fad with celery leaves on coats and a shift in athletic jumping. Juniors push book-keeping, seniors may drop Constitutional History for Physiology, while some students joke about honors and grades. A speaker praises free silver for the April concert as the geometry professor hints at bending lines to pass through a center.
Ed Labar pled guilty to stealing chickens from Mrs. Wolf at her meat market and was sentenced by Judge Hord to thirty days in the county jail. He fled, was chased, and surrendered to Policeman Ferguson at Sam Cahn's on South Washington Street. Labar said intoxication influenced the act and that sobriety was rare. Junior Epworth League meeting Saturday at 2 p.m.. dues payable.
County commissioners visited the poor farms then toured Wolfe Creek where the lot washed away and awarded the Haw Creek bridge repair contract to Geo. W. Caldwell. They plan to inspect Otto Creek today where a bridge was washed out, with repairs to be completed at once.
Official word states Governor Bradley refused Scott Jackson's clemency appeal and he will hang on March 20. An unofficial note says Walling has been reprieved to a date after March 20. A surprise party marked Mrs. Louis Jordan's birthday at 9th and Pearl Street with guests including Mrs. Leonard Shireman and several others.
The sale of L. Rosenbush's stock is moving quickly with larger discounts than the administrator anticipated as buyers rush to secure holdings.
John S Crump begins stringing wire for a new electric light plant with ten to twelve workers. He equips the plant with the latest machinery, including a dynamo purchased earlier, aiming to add a premier industry to Columbus and to always strive for the best.
Dr Norton of Petersville and George Friedgen of Broad Ripple were in the city yesterday. Tude Miller of Clifford and Chas Maley visited Columbus yesterday. Dr Francis was a southbound passenger yesterday morning. Henry Maley and Miss Bettie McGaughey of Shelbyville visited Columbus and Edinburg yesterday and Monday evening respectively.
J C Laughlin reports a healthy finances for the Francis Thomas Orphans Home with $5598.20 received from county commissioners and a year end cash balance of $505.79. Maintenance costs totaled $3704.86 and land additions $1502, with per capita expenses dropping from 263 to 16 cents over four years.
