President Zelaya attends United States legation and consulate receptions with Minister Lewis Baker Consul Paul Wieseke. European and American guests join in patriotic songs and speeches reflecting July Fourth celebrations in Managua.
A July 4 blaze in Batesville Arkansas destroyed twelve buildings after starting in a residence and possibly sparked by firecrackers. The loss nears 60000 dollars and several people were critically injured. The fire halted along Main and Church streets with only Williams’ stone storehouse escaping.
The 630 mile Metropliten Concourse race in New York draws 130 birds from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jersey City, Bayonne, Newark, Harrison, Elizabeth, Westfield, and Staten Island. Birds were shipped from varias lofts to Belden SC. the event is led by United States signal officer and promises a diamond studded gold band to the winner.
A lively Brown County picnic near Lockman drew large crowds with many enjoying a splendid time. A parade along the Washington street route drew locals, while the Brass Band played tunes as trains between Columbus and nearby towns were listed with arrival and departure times. Miss Edith Stott of Franklin and Miss Chloe Butler visited, with Mrs. Mary Spencer and daughter of Seymour calling on Mrs. Henry Judd.
Pan American visitors spent a hot Sunday in St Louis joining in Fourth of July festivities. The group toured Forest Park and Tower Grove Park, attended a concert, and heard welcomes from James Reardon and James Arbuckle at the Spanish Club before leaving by special train for Chicago via Lockport and Willow Grove.
A historical parade in Columbus drew praise for its grand, well managed showcases. Meyer & Feigenbaum impressed with two wagons and a landau while many merchants presented strong displays including Dr Pratt and others in a large industrial procession.

On a Bennett farm a honey hive was stolen and Mr. Stader used C A Smith and bloodhounds to locate the thief. A search warrant was sworn and the premises were to be searched, with Smith praising the dogs’ effectiveness.
July 4 report states Charles A. Dana, veteran editor of the New York Sun, remains confined at his Glencoe home with catarrh of the stomach. Family and doctors express cautious optimism about his condition and note no change in his status.
