Reports say W. A. Byrd deputy U S marshal was killed instantly while on duty eighteen miles from Jackson Kentucky. A sheriff and posse left tonight for the scene of the murder.
About 150 men representing $25,000,000 in capital gathered at Denison to organize a state manufacturers association. The Press claims Gen Maximo Gomez stormed Santa Clara on January 9 and advances toward Havana with 18 000 men. It reports heavy Spanish losses including 900 killed and wounded 700 prisoners 18 cannon and 4 rifles seized while Cuban casualties total 1500. Carlos Roloff backs the report as credible.
Theodore Goehring of Dau ghterty Township Beaver County was bitten on the thumb by a vicious cat. He chopped off the cat's head with an axe after the jaws remained clasped. The bite pierced his thumb and left a sore hand and arm. Meanwhile workers leave the city daily to cut wood in the country amid hunger and hardship.
