An election for postmaster in North Manchester, Kosciusko County, produced 612 votes among six candidates after three withdrew. George Shively led with 165, George Craft 135, Russell Leonard 127, J A Clevenger 56, Johno Martino 72, Icho Ulery 21. Shively, a Dunkard and good Republican, faced mixed reactions from rivals.

Crawfordsville Maryland December 12 George M Cohen a well known dealer in fast stock and his hired man Aaron Roe were arrested on grand jury indictments charging arson Last August a large stock barn where Cohen stabled horses burned and the following day charred remains showed their throats cut and the barn set ablaze to cover the deed The grand jury indicted them jointly The public doubts their guilt The horses were said to be heavily insured.
In Frayxxroft Kentucky on December 12 reports say attorney Crawford, Scott Jackson's counsel, is in town but no motion for a rehearing has been filed and Governor Bradley has not been seen by Crawford. Letters, some signed, urge executive clemency while others seek life in prison saying he is too wicked to die.
Dec 12 Lusokout Mountain and Lulu Lake Incline Company power house on Lookout Mountain burned this morning. A car at the top caught fire and, released by the burned cable, shot down the slope in a sheet of flame before being hurled from the track and dashed to pieces in a gorge. No injuries reported.
