The city buzzes with activity as Uncle Tom's Cabin plays Tuesday at Crump's Theatre and a G A R encampment looms. Elections creep closer with council nominations and local offices up for grabs while housing, insurance, and street work plans stir debate.
A revised city map is issued for insurance purposes, replacing the 1892 twelve page edition with a twenty one page map. The update notes many new buildings erected in the last six years.
George Mellinger of Muncie marries Vesta Smith of this city at the bride’s parents home on Fourth and Chestnut. Rev Frank Hood officiates with Geo Tull on the piano. Attendants include Charles Jackson best man and Kate Mellinger bridesmaid. They depart Tuesday for Muncie to reside.
Stillinger and Lee have secured nearly $2000 worth of work at North Vernon. Mrs. Dolph Farr of Edinburg visits her brother Henry Wells near Cortland. A small blaze on Second Street destroyed a barn owned by Kellar and Brockman with light loss. Frank Dean of Bethlehem forecasts a record peach yield.
The Star reports Reeves & Co plans to expand its workforce by 100 new hands within days. An official told a reader that the plant is busy and has completed orders, suggesting continued work for Columbus laborers this summer.
Hope voters chose candidates for corporation posts in a Saturday primary. Trustees First Ward select J. C Rominger and Alvis Rominger with strong totals, Trustees Second Ward favor Louis Dillman and Joby T. Boreham, Will Scheff and George S. Cook vie for Clerk, F. M. Stewart and E. T. Slater seek Treasurer, and J. W. D. Aspy and D. J. Hawkins contend for Marshal. J. M. Lindley visited relatives and returned to Terre Haute.
Will Stoffer, sick for several days, is able to be out again. The streets will be paved in ample time for the encampment. Mrs Schrorer of Walesboro came up this morning. Jesse Ulery, Harry and Joan Kinney and Néal Waggoner went to Edinburgh and returned yesterday on their wheels. The Democrats referring to the Kids brings one to mind that there are other Kids besides republican ones. Within Good crop of wheat this year and wheat worth 1000 dollars per bushel, the farmer can realize as in times gone by.
Uncle Levi Holland of Columbus visits with friends this week for Moravian church services. Lewis Artz and family of Columbus attended Braner Rominger weddings Sunday night. Capt. W H Aikie announces candidacy for Republican representative. Church services yesterday drew good crowds and fine music.

The Hartsville school board selected the following teachers for the ensuing year. Principal Prof Pestzeri at the intermediate level and Harry Mahaffey at the primary, Mary Bline, as listed.
Hope M. E. Church authorities are now receiving bids for the construction of nine parlors on Washington street. The edifice will probably cost about two thousand dollars.

The taking of the school enumeration begins today Monday. Wm J Thompson will enumerate Columbus township outside the city while George Clutch and Mike Lewis will enumerate the city.
Wm. Clark living two miles west of Columbus purchased a Brook's incubator months ago and now reports a hatch underway. Today he added a brooder to care for the young chickens.

Father Conrad arrived from Seymour this morning. The Columbus Culture club met at Mrs. Agnes Cochrane this afternoon with an interesting programme. Will Callahan of Indianapolis spent Sunday in the city yesterday. Wm. Cook of Taylorsville visited his daughter Mrs. Frank Toohey yesterday.
Dr Beck of Hartsville visits and reports the town's general health is very good at present. The update comes as residents note improving wellbeing in the community as of today.
