Local companies plan new offices and sewer work continues on Lang street. Several residents move, sue for divorce, or relocate to other cities. A bridge project near Hope advances, and visitors arrive from Franklin and Elizabethtown with rain dampening plans for a welcoming stay.

Emma Lacy sues Frank Lacy for assault. The wise will be tried today before squire Palmer.
Bad weather kept the telephone crew from starting work until about 9 80 yesterday morning. Anderson Shultz's jumbo carry all transported the men to the job, and it was noted with amusement as the crew crawled through the old bus windows to begin work.
Louisville and Telegraph schedules Sunday trips after the 15th leaving Madison at 1 PM and returning in time for the Indianapolis train, which departs Madison at 6 PM.
The formerly George Birt owned fruit stand and restaurant was bought by Geo Kinney and Mrs Charlie Turpin. Candy and hot lunches will remain, with Fawn Durnall continuing night service duties. Easter in Hope features Moravian church sunrise events and weeklong services.

Charles G Menken formerly Spinner arrived last night from Indianapolis. He rode the Pullman Sleeper in a cold berth and was short of funds. The trip was described as perilous and uncomfortable.
The Womans Musical Club Chorus holds a rehearsal this afternoon at three o'clock at Stahlhuths.
In a petition by Lewis Friedersdorf against Henry Schroeder the court, after hearing the evidence, found Schroeder capable of transacting his own business. Mrs. Clay hosted a small gathering at her Frankfinst home last evening with Mr and Mrs Fenwick Frazer Rev and Mrs Hood Mr and Mrs H M Holmes in attendance.
The Columbus Gas Light and Wake Co. gives notice of its annual election for five directors on Monday April 19 at the office 312 Washington Street. Polls open from 2 to 4 p.m. C M Keller Secretary. April 9 1897.
A stream of visitors and residents were noted arriving and departing city yesterday including Dr Francis, Dr Heckard, H H Basset, Barney McEvenne, Rev Percy Kendall, Al McLaughlin, Bushrod Taylor, Geo Cauldwell, William Brockman, Mrs Chas Jones, Louis Silverman, Rev Z T Sweeney, G A Ferguson, Kiev Darling, Dr Sanders, Mrs Julius Schaub, Miss Marcia Voris, Elmer Williams, Gus Neible, Dr Otto, and E E Waddington. Several returned from northern Indiana and Connersville with several heading to St Louis and Hope Indiana. The attendance reflected ongoing social and professional activity.
Frank Williams of Flatrock underwent kidney surgery performed by Dr. Banker at 10 36 am Thursday. The operation was a complete success and he is improving, though he will remain in bed for several weeks.
A prominent resident in the northern part of the city refused a Mormon elder's tract and stated he did not believe in religion. The elder persisted at length and finally departed in disgust after failing to convert him.
For tonight’s show the Music Midgets at Crump’s offers reserved lower floor seats at 25 cents and school children under twelve at 10 cents. Balcony seats on sale at Otto’s Drug Store. Go early for choice seats. R. BR. Y. M. C. A. lecture course tickets of Secretary Titus have same condition as on.
The Jackson County meats gain praise as Berkshire stock slow cure hickory smoked products. An advertisement clip from a Louisville paper, supplied by Gustave Breitfield, contrasts Jackson County meat with Bullitt County razor-backs, noting superior quality and regional demand.
The R. R. Y. M. A. invites all men and boys to a 3 30 pm talk tomorrow with Dr G L Curtiss addressing God's mathematics as revealed in crystals. He will display crystals and shells and demonstrate analysis. A male quartet will perform to add interest.
Hon George W Cooper prepares a prolonged southern journey visiting St. Louis Ft Worth Texas El Paso Tex and Albuquerque NM to live outdoors for climate benefits. He will tour Colorado on return as health improves and the Star wishes him a full recovery.
The Columbus Handle Co. works about fourteen hours daily while Orinoco Furniture Co. runs overtime three nights weekly to meet orders. Western D Handle Co. ships large timber quantities with many hands employed. Brinkley Co. has many orders ahead and Reeves Pulley Co. reports fair business as its engine department grows. Mooney & Sons Tannery receives daily new orders and the overall outlook remains very fair.
A recent Mystic Midgets performance drew a full house with strong praise. Tonight’s show promises to surpass yesterday, urging patrons to buy tickets early for best seats as prices remain inexpensive. No matinee this afternoon.
Hon H A Philips of California will speak tonight in the north court 100m on finance from a free silver standpoint. Dr Heckard will be in his office for dental work today and tomorrow. Stadthuth varnish stain will finish furniture. Mr Poland of Newsom and Son owns a willow easel with growing shoots at his home.
Joseph H. Houck of St. Louis Crossing was arrested by Constable Diable at his home to answer patentty charges filed by Jen nie Baker. Bond of $500 with County Supt. J. A. Wade as security posted. Trial before Justice Palmer set for April 30 at 10 a.m.
The administrator of Lee Rosenbush & Co sold the Hub shoe store to Louis Bowlen and Oscar Fiegenbaum who plan to keep only first class stock and reopen today. Bowlen leaves for market tonight to replenish stock with top goods and will be assisted by Richard Fisher. Bowlen and Fiegenbaum invite public calls at the old stand.
D. C. Murray, claim agent of the J. M. and IL, now lives in Richmond but has moved his family to this city. He will occupy the house recently vacated by Frank Nolting on Franklin St. A man on the 4:20 train asked if this was Indiana’s State Fish Commissioner residence, noted it in his notebook, his face heavily bandaged as if injured.
