A party of Columbus gentlemen with dogs and shot throwers plan a hunting expedition about fourteen miles west of the city where quail and other game are reported abundant. Participants include Frank Clark Charles Pfeifer Dr Roland Al Bozzell and Chas Brown. Dora Ogden has been granted a patent on his battery zinc.
The next regular quarterly opening of the Salvation Army Mercy Boxes occurs during the week of November 10 to 17. Box holders should keep boxes ready for the local agent’s visit in that week.
Will Wayland and John Wells captured two coons and a possum last night. Joe Young and Wayland hunt quail east of the city today. Frank Aberroth tries his quail luck today. Will Wetz and Noah Howe, ready for business, shoot quail west of the city. The Semi-Weekly Star offers one year with other papers at 1.25. Superintendent Bonebrake of the P C St L railroad tests standard track four miles north of Jeffersonville and may convert Louisville division. Other Southern Resorts are on sale via the Southern Railway through Louisville and Cincinnati.
A hydrant leak at Fifth and Sycamore drew late night repairs by a force of workers. The break at the connection to the main was hard to fix but was stopped by 8 PM. Residents report muddy weather and urge immediate repairs to California street area.
Frank Taylor a well known Columbus boy who spent the past year in Nashville Tenn in the tent and awning business will return to this city the last of the week He plans to winter here and next year will reengage in tent business at the Omaha exposition.

J A Carter appeared in court this morning and was ordered to prepare for trial Saturday the 13 inst. The judge presides as Carter, described as smooth and crooked, faces forged check charges. Landlord Tuttle is praised for pursuing and arresting him at his own expense, with calls to shift costs to the county if he is proven guilty. The piece warns criminals endanger communities and urges swift conviction.
Sheriff Cox confronted a man peering into a home on North Washington Street and fired after the intruder claimed to be Columbus police chief. The shooter later learned the man was George Childers, drunken and disorderly, jailed that night. Childers is married to Cox’s acquaintance.

A list of attendees includes numerous local ladies and gentlemen. The Philadelphia National League talks covered drafting changes and many trades. Wade Hampton’s railway mood low-water mark was reached in 1896. Elizabethtown’s Othello Thomas is ill with typhoid fever. The hotel forger J A Carter attempted to bribe Henry Stader with 250 to obtain two files and acid to break jail. Stader refused and reported the offer. Carter had a jail key in his possession.
