Long-lived Clifford resident Lavina Carter dies at 94

Miss Lavina Carter of Clifford died aged 94 after a long life in North Carolina Kentucky and Ohio born May 9 1804 she joined the Methodist Episcopal church at 14 and remained devout. She lived in a four woman home circle oldest among sisters Sarah and others near ninety. Her death ends a well respected life as a Christian and community figure in Clifford.

Destruction of Spanish torpedo gunboat near Gibraltar

A British steamer reports a Spanish torpedo boat destroyer guarding Algeciras Bay and the Straits was destroyed by an internal explosion. The vessel Destructor, built in 1887 at Clyde Bank, 182 feet long, armed with one 3.5 inch gun and multiple quick-firing guns, with three torpedo tubes and a crew of fifty five, is believed to have perished with all hands.
