Indiana postmasters were appointed today. Epsom in Daviess county gets William T. Dickenson replacing Jerome Reese. New Alsace in Dearborn county appoints Jacob Gailga replacing Burgermeister. Pulaski in Pulaski county names John C. Shank replacing Jon H. Barker. Urbana in Wabash county names George Miller replacing Mary H. Frushour. Waterford in Laporte county names Frank E. Girlow replacing John H. Kuhn.

Tramp Sloane Captured After Attack on North Manchester Girl

Marshal Lautzenbeiser arrived with Leroy Sloane, the tramp who assaulted the ten year old daughter of John W. Hare near North Manchester. Sloane, claiming insanity, was said to have evidence on his clothes to convict him. The child is recovering and lynching fears subsided as locals remain calm.

Protracted meeting draws large crowds in Nebo area

George Hovis visited Columbus today and Dr. C Wilson was in town Saturday. James Hayes from Quilville is in town to oversee lumber. Rome Jackson and wife visited Andrew Carmichael. Samuel Stephens from Monroe County visited his brother George. The infant son of William Greathouse died today at 22 days old from croup. funeral planned at the residence Tuesday with Rev. Spain recalls envoy over McKinley letter leak

Washington demands the recall of Senor Dupuy de Lome the Spanish minister after the Canalejas letter harshly criticizing President McKinley is published by the Cuban Junta. De Lome acknowledges the letter was authentic but says it was his personal opinion and not the Spanish government.

Ora McCABie has about 400 bushels of corn ready to shock. James Cohee and wife had a recent dispute leading to an affidavit for assault. Cohee was arrested and later reconciled with his wife. Uncle Bill Spraggs attends church nightly with a wagon load. Residents warned about speaking ill of neighbors. Mrs Will Hendricks recovered from throat operation. Forecasts predict cooler weather soon. Grand Army and Sons of Veterans events will boost Columbus with metropolitan-style activity and local business advertising.
