A girl named Ida Hughes rode the southbound train yesterday then waited in a station waiting room all day. Agent Johnson investigated as she claimed to live three miles away and said she was traveling from Indianapolis to Columbus with an inconclusive medical background. She said a ticket to Columbus was misprinted for Edinburg and was sent to a hotel for treatment before continuing to Columbus.
During floods the Southern Indiana Natural Gas Co high-pressure line at Shelbyville broke in two in the Big Blue river. The Ladies Aid Society of the Christian church met with Mrs. Charles Hege this afternoon. The group brought their needles and thimbles and spent the afternoon sewing.
A sizeable group of young people attended the social at the residence of Charles A. House last Saturday evening. Miss Ida Philippe attended and the evening featured games and entertainment, ending with a pleasant social mood.
Newbern and Bartholomew county report a sharp decline in diphtheria with only one active case remaining Luna Hook, age about twenty two, the last patient. Nearly fifty cases and five deaths have been recorded, spurring hopes the town will not face the disease again.

Mrs Mary Luker went to Elizabeth Town last night. Mrs Dave Huffer visited friends in Indianapolis last night. Mrs Chris Breeding and Mrs Eisie Hammonds reside on Sycamore Street. Mrs McKinney returned from Seymour last night after a several weeks visit. Lewis Schaffer of Benton Harbor, Mich, was here setting up his father’s estate. Herman Schaffer returned home tonight. Mrs John Breeing is in Columbus.
A cablegram announced this morning that Dr Curtiss remains were sent yesterday. The message lists Curtiss Columbus Indiana and Hesperia as the anchor point with Adams Express delivering in Columbus. Details by mail are noted.
A March 30 1898 wedding in Azalia joined Dr Leroy Mains Jr of Seymour and Miss Fita Hall of Azalia at the bride’s home with Rev Willis Bond officiating. The couple resides at 209 W St Louis Ave Seymour and receive broad congratulations from friends and the community.
In Spe lbyville Indiana April 5 George L Castina of Columbus recalls a dramatic encounter when Dr Curtiss, a tall muscular pastor, faced a murder-threat from a sane man acquitted earlier. The two men faced each other for a full minute before Curtiss left the room and the incident ended. Miss Lillie Mohr of Clifford was in the city today.
Mrs Maggie Bond widow of Merridith Bond aged about sixty suffered a paralysis stroke Wednesday night while en route from her home at the corner of Tenth and Jackson to visit Oscar Bond on South Jackson. She fell before Harvey Patterson's grocery and was carried home by buggy. a physician fears the stroke may prove fatal. She has several children living in the city.
The Blues beat the Reds 26 to 15 in a past YMCA team event. Old members split into two sides for a friendly contest with a goal of recruiting new members. The Reds plan an Easter social next Monday night.
