Eldest Hawcreek Pioneer Eli Reed Celebrates 90th Birthday
The community honors Eli Reed known as Uncle Elij for reaching ninety with a grand dinner. Born April 1 1808 in Stokes County North Carolina he and wife Katie Snider moved to Indiana in 1831 where they raised eight children. Reed has fifty four grandchildren and about eighty great grandchildren with seven of his eight offspring still living. The Old St Louis correspondent says his moral character and pioneer leadership are cherished in Hawcreek township.
