Bold Project to Convert Arabian Desert Into Ocean

Captain William Allan of the British Navy publishes a book proposing turning the Arabian Desert into an ocean by linking the head of the Gulf of Aqaba to the Red Sea and the Mediterranean by canals. He envisions two channels that would flood the desert, raise water levels, and create a 500 square mile sea, opening Palestine to settlement and fertility, though no survey supports feasibility yet.
