Fr W L Wilde of Georgia travels in Tuscany and Florence to study Dante and Tasso. He gains access to Florentine archives from the Grand Duke enabling him to pursue clandestine records in Dante era. His patient labor uncovers brittle parchments and illegible notes tedious but rewarding in unveiling ancient lives.
Scholar Mr Wilde and collaborator Signor Bezzi, backed by Florentine officials, uncovered a Giotto fresco revealing Dante in the Botticelli era. The National reports a New York exhibit of Mr Cochran's steam excavation machine, called the Steam Paddy. It can dig about a thousand cubic feet daily and works underwater, suitable for docks and canals. Cochran aims to win British contracts and form a company for heavy excavation with claimed low costs and high profits.
