Execution and ghastly resuscitation of John White at Louisville
John White, convicted of the murder of Gwatkin and Glenn, was executed on the Ohio River at Louisville, Ky., early morning. The knot failed to break his neck, and after hanging about twenty-two minutes he was cut down for galvanic resuscitation experiments. Doctors reported feeble pulse, moving limbs, and breathings as the corpse revived briefly, then deteriorated, with hopes of life fading amid brain congestion.
