Reports from Terre Haute and Indianapolis describe violent unrest in Shelburn and nearby areas where striking miners threaten the railway and bridge along the Evansville Terre Haute line. Militia deployed Battery A and other troops to restore order as dynamite and gunfire are reported.
In New Orleans on June 5 H F Heffner former Chicago area resident and president of Heffner Mining Co killed himself with laudanum at the Hotel Gruenewald using the name J Wilson. Resorting to real estate later, unpaid board bills and despondency followed the repeal of the silver bill, ending his troubles. Meanwhile in Wheeling West Virginia miners plan to mass 600 workers to cross the river and press Ohio district to join a march to Fairmont to compel miners to cross. The plan was discussed at a United Mine Workers meeting with action deferred until a delegate assembly tomorrow.
Washington reports strong pressure to remove Civil Service Commissioner Lyman. The president may offer a consular post to Lyman if a satisfactory vacancy appears in duties and pay.
Four thousand tons of Cardiff coal arrived in port aboard the steamer Cynthiana for Berwind-White Coal Co. The move, at a loss of about $2.50 per ton to contractors, follows a strike in the bituminous fields. Other items note widespread fuel shortages in Cleveland and crowds arming for Cripple Creek deputies, plus various regional incidents.

Henderson Kentucky June 5 T Morris of Ohio county hired Nace Langdon and Jim Price to work on his farm. A quarrel over craps led to a fight in the stable with pitchforks. Piles struck Morris in the abdomen with a fork, delivering a mortal wound. Piles fled, collapsed nearby.
In Vancouver on June 5 the Fraser river continues to rise and sits about six inches above the highest 1882 flood mark. Fraser valley spanning 100 miles is engulfed. steamers operated by the local government rescue settlers from flooded ranches and submerged homes, mooring by chimneys and flagpoles for three days.
