A Columbus shop advertises a Christmas sale starting tomorrow December 18 offering handkerchiefs mufflers plush goods and toys at deep discounts. Items include silk and wool mufflers for 49 cents Japanese polka dot mufflers at 24 cents and plush goods at low prices with many items pitched as great gifts.
Cronin jury returns life terms for Daniel Coughlin Patrick O Sullivan and Martin Burke while John Kunze gets three years Beggs is acquitted The defendants show little emotion as the verdicts are read and jurors are discharged Lawyers plan motions for a new trial along with sketches of the prisoners and their backgrounds.
The Boston meeting of the Federation of Labor closed with decisions on strike funding and the Knights of Labor. The executive council may levy up to two cents per member weekly to aid allied bodies in financial distress, potentially raising up to $780,000 yearly. The Knights of Labor charter power was restricted and a push for mixed assemblies was endorsed. Samuel Gompers was re elected president and Detroit set as next meeting site.

Rome December 17 Megr Satolli returned to Rome and spoke with the Pope about his mission to America He said he was well received by Catholics and civil authorities and that Washington favors an accredited diplomatic representative at the Vatican.
The Ex change elevator with 350000 bushels capacity and property of Green and Bloomer burned Sunday morning. Barley valued at 125000 dollars and elevator at 100000 dollars. Insurance amount unknown. Also reports levee breach at Marysville Sacramento river flooding Sutter County lands with grain losses near 250000 dollars.
Henry W. Crawford appeared in Judge Gresham's court to answer wrecking charges against the Midland road of Indiana. He asked for time to prepare and for admission to examine affidavits. an injunction blocked further bond actions by the Loan & Investment Company. Crawford denied irregularities and claimed no intent to issue bonds beyond 1,110,000 dollars. The court allowed time. next hearing set for Indianapolis.
Franklin B Gowen, former president of Philadelphia Reading Railroad, was found dead in his room at Leys Hotel Philadelphia with a pistol by his side. He had arrived in Washington to handle Inter State Commerce Commission oil cases and appeared in court as Mr Rice's attorney, with no clear cause for his death. Authorities reported the death as a probable suicide due to overwork, noting his age and long career in law mining and railroads.
The Marquis de Caux formerly married to Adelina Patti is dead in Paris. They wed in 1868 at a Roman Catholic church in London and were divorced in France in 1884 amid disputes over Patti's money and estate.
