Monroe County residents total 2 114 receiving monthly benefits of 149 302 dollars at year end 1966. Brasher East St. Louis outlines retirees spouses widows and survivors including 172 young widows and children 12 388 dollars and 75 disabled workers 5 917 dollars. City Council Meeting Resume Report June 12

The meeting opened with Mayor Wilbert H. Kremmel presiding at 7 30 P M. Present were Aldermen Landgraf Bergman Lepp Gallagher Van Luik Eckert Vogt while Richert was absent. Staff Jos J Volkert Jr and James Henderson Ass t Supt of Maintenance reported on routine matters including the new base station and antenna for the maintenance radio system now in operation and the bronze centennial plaque installed at City Hall. A scarifier attachment for the motor grader was delivered. Robert W Brown for the Columbia Scout Camping Association presented and signed an agreement allowing use of about 7 60 acres near the City disposal grounds for camping and scouting. The document was signed by the Mayor and City Clerk for the city and by Brown Beckstein Thompson for the association. The council acted on a Boy Scout request with a motion by Alderman Van.”

Robert Aucutt formerly of El Paso Illinois works for Union Electric Co. in St. Louis. He and his wife plus their three year old son Robert Jr live at Route 2 Columbia. Mrs. Aucutt earned her education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1963.

First Baptist Church Names Rev Roy W Simpson Pastor

The First Baptist Church at Schell City Missouri called Rev Roy W Simpson native of Nevada Missouri to be pastor. He holds BA and MA from Ouachita Baptist College Arkadelphia and was ordained at Pine Street Baptist Nevada July 15 1956. He has pastored Olive Branch Sheldon Oakland Park Pine Bluff Sheridan and Schell City churches and served as associational Sunday School superintendent secretary of alumni friends of Cedar and Vernon Counties Southwest Baptist College president of the Pastor's Conference and moderator of the Nevada Missouri Baptist Association. Mrs Simpson active in missionary unions and youth groups. They arrived in Columbia June 6 and reside at 706 Bottom Ave parsonage.

Mrs Maggie Rusteberg 77 dies in Anna State Hospital

Maggie Crowder Rusteberg 77 of Valmayer died Tuesday night at Anna State Hospital after long residence there. Survived by husband Fred A. Rusteberg two daughters Mrs. Earl McClenahan of Columbia and Mrs. Walter Otten of Flat River Mo and Roy of Columbia one half sister Mrs. Cora Kuehne twelve grandchildren. Funeral at Quernheim Funeral Home 2 p.m. Friday burial in Walmeyer Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday.

John L. Petri 80 died suddenly at his Waterloo home on Wednesday night June 7. Born November 27, 1886 in Columbia, he is survived by his wife Anna nee Haberhehl a daughter Mrs Armin J Glessner and a sister Mrs Charles. Strike Continues At Columbia Quarry

A five hour meeting failed to settle a strike by about 200 workers at five quarries in the East St. Louis area. The workers from East St. Louis Stone Co Casper Stone Quarry and Contracting Co Columbia Quarry Co are represented by Local 520 of the International Union of Operating Engineers District 9 of the International Association of Machinists Local 1244 Quarry Laborers Union and Local 729 Teamster and Chauffeurs Union. Management and unions met at Stadium Motor Hotel in East St. Louis from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday with two Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service representatives but no new contract agreed and no further meetings scheduled.

Pallbearer Cornelius Weilbacher to Honor Ritter

Cornelius F. Weilbacher of 6364 Murdoch Ave will be among eight personal friends of Joseph Cardinal Ritter to serve as pallbearers at funeral services in the St. Louis Cathedral. Ritter died Saturday at DePaul Hospital after several heart attacks at age 74.

Two Youths Arrested For Theft Sunday

Two youths were taken into custody after a Sunday theft at Weis bacher s Hardware Store on 517 Columbia Ave. One fled after a crash with a patrol motorcycle but was later captured. the other, Herbert Feldt 19, of 600 block Columbia Ave, faces charges of theft reckless driving and running a stop sign and remains jailed pending a preliminary hearing.

Geology students head to Wyoming field courses

Joseph Kolmer of Columbia joins 46 other geology students from 17 states and 18 colleges en route to the annual field courses in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. The group, organized by Miami University, travels to Timber Line Ranch near Dubois for in depth geological study.

World's Largest Caterpillar Tops Cub Scout Parade

The Cub Scouts showcased many acts at the American Legion Parade with a circus theme. The World's Largest Caterpillar earned first place while Columbia Gymnastic Association took second and the Boy Scouts third in the organization division. Linnemann Oil Co. won the commercial class with a Hawaii themed float.

Collision at Locust and Briegel Streets In Columbia

A motor bike and an automobile collided at Locust and Briegel in Columbia at 7 50 p m on June 8. The car was driven by Gustav Boemer and the motor bike by Thomas Bergmann. Bergmann sustained lacerations, was hospitalized, and has since been released. He is the son of Mrs. Ralph Beckman of Columbia.
