Illinois Power Co Announces Reduction In Consumer Rates
Illinois Power Company announced new electric rates expected to save customers about 3 million dollars annually. The reduction, filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission, will mainly aid residential users with two thirds of the cut and applies to billing periods ending after June 25. The average drop is around 4 percent for typical residential usage, with higher savings for heavy users and electric heat.

Nine Year Old Killed In Crash On State Route 3
Corwin McClure nine of Sikeston Missouri died in a two car crash on State Rt 3 near Washington Street Monday at 6 45 p m. He was a passenger in a car driven by his mother Del la L McClure thirty six. She and two other passengers were injured and treated at St Elizabeth s Hospital in Belleville. The other driver Eleanora Leathen fifty four of Jennings was treated for minor injuries and released from St Clement s Hospital Red Bud. State Police said the southbound car crossed the center line and struck the McClure vehicle head on. Passengers with Mrs McClure included H R Fuller and Stephen Fuller both of Sikeston.

Bequette Injured Crossing Main Street Aftertruck Collision
Miss Kathryn E. Bequette nineteen year old Columbia resident was struck while crossing Main Street at about 7 20 p m Thursday. She was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville for treatment. The driver was Mrs Arlen Steele of R R 2 Columbia and the accident occurred when Bequette stepped from the curb behind a truck into the car's path.

Stray Bullet Hits Workman in Leg near River Site

Traffic Death Toll Shifts in May Projections
Illinois records 103 traffic fatalities in the first 15 days of May according to provisional reports from the Division of Highways and State Highway Police. Carroll Pleads Not Guilty To Unlawful Use Of Weapon
