Governor Otto Kerner announced a 1966 highway improvement program with an estimated 217.5 million dollars for right of way and construction. Of the total, 147.2 million funds interstate work and 70.3 million funds non interstate routes. Local sources 17 million and federal 159.1 million, eight settings planned in 1966 starting January 28 in Springfield.

Mrs. Leona F. Anderson 47 of Valmeyer died Sunday after long illness at Barnes Hospital St. Louis. Born October 14 1918 in Foster Pond she lived in Valmeyer 14 years and belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ Women’s Guild. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Valmeyer with burial in Kolmer Memorial Cemetery Waterloo. Wagner Funeral Home in charge. Survived by husband Harry two daughters June and Joyce a son Wayne two brothers Albert and Harold Werling one sister Mrs. Raymond Alice Stumpf and mother Mrs. Katherine Werling of Waterloo.

Monroe County farmers may file requests for 1966 agricultural conservation program practices such as Pasture Development Waterways Ponds Terraces Erosion Control Dams Forest Improvement and Conservation Beautification. Sign-up runs now through February 11 1966 with year round acceptances pending funds. The ACP shares costs with farmers and provides technical planning help from SCS Forestry Service and Game Management.

Public Aid Rolls Show Decrease In October
Illinois Public Aid rolls fell by 16 453 in October with 392 386 recipients, down from 408 839 in September. October 1965 total was 20 317 below October 1964’s 412 703. Monroe County program totals include Old Age Assistance 106 cases 12 261 dollars and Aid to Dependent Children 64 cases 2 965 dollars among others.

Vandals Break Window At Otto Rahe Home
Vandals damaged the Rahe residence on a Saturday evening Jan 1 breaking a picture window. Mr and Mrs Otto Rahe were away for several hours and returned about 9 30 pm to find the window broken. It is the third incident of damage to their home in recent weeks.

Valmeyer Community Unit School District No 3 receives $33,920 of a $240,000 Title I grant approved for ten downstate districts under the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Burns Trial Set For January 17 in Belleville Case

City Council Rejects Bluff Road Water Bid
At the regular meeting, the City Council rejected all bids for the Bluff Side Road water system improvements after only bid from E A Weiner Construction Co exceeded the estimate.
