Two grammar school posts remain vacant with a pending election after Miss McAfee was rejected by a 3 to 7 vote. another exam will be held at the Athenacum next Friday to fill two vacancies.

Night Operator Robbery At North Railroad Yards
A night operator was robbed Sunday around 11 by a large black man with a large gun. The assailant demanded the operator’s lunch and fled with the basket as officers pursued along the Hampshire road, but he escaped into a field before capture.

The Maury County Democratic Executive Committee met at the courthouse and endorsed William Jennings Bryan for president. At the Maury County Teachers Association meeting in the Chancery Court room the June 15 two week Institute program was detailed. Dr. BE L. Roberts will instruct the full Institute, Miss Charlotte Willing due to teach primary work, J W Brister to speak June 16, and June 18 features a talk by State Superintendent Jones. Officers elected: LeRoy Reynolds president, J W Journey vice president, Mary T. Blackburn secretary treasurer.

The Country Club of Maury county forms a permanent organization with W. P. Wooldridge as President and a slate including John P. McGaw Secretary T. E. New S. C. Harlan W. P. Wooldridge J. C. Grand Jurors Return Bills in Circuit Court Docket
The state docket was taken Monday in the Circuit Court as several liquor cases head the list. The Grand Jury filed its first report Friday yielding seven true bills for misdemeanors and one for felony. verdicts were returned in multiple civil actions including damages of 300 dollars in Tomlinson vs Black and a defense verdict in Weeden vs Kinney and Durham. The McGowan vs Prince suit continues.

Preparations at Columbia Mill for Wheat Crop
The Columbia Mill and Elevator Co has installed four new machines for flour production including Blue and Red Seal brands. McKinney and Dale push for updated machinery as the mill is overhauled ahead of the wheat harvest. City Grain and Feed Co. closed for repairs and cleaning for the new crop. Ernest McLemore leads a major local industry bringing substantial revenue to the county and the South's largest feed manufacturing operation.

Eagle Feather for Mr Carmack in Prohibition Tale
S M Jones killed a 77 inch gray eagle on Iron Bridge road this week. He plucked three wing feathers and brought them to The Herald to deliver to Senator Carmack for use with the State Wide Prohibition bill. The bird bore a red ribbon and no Carmack button.

Anniversary of Pisgah Church Centennial Celebration
The Pisgah Methodist church near Hampshire marks its centennial with a two day observance on Saturday and Sunday. A dinner will be served on the grounds on Saturday as large attendance is anticipated. The church, Tennessee’s oldest Methodist church south of the Duck River, was founded by hardy pioneers from North Carolina and first met in a log cabin soon after Maury County and Columbia were established.

Street Work to Begin Soon Under Tar Viating Plan
Street Committee of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meets to select streets for tar viating treatment and arrange early close conditions. Tar shipment of 125 barrels has arrived at the depot. J. Akin will supervise the work and oversee the treatment.
