Suspend Toll Charges Until After July 18

Citizens of the county are urged to aid the fight against telephone rate hikes as toll charges between intra county stations are suspended until after a general hearing on July 18. The Cumberland Telephone company faced delays after initial petitions, with a new set of rates proposed to take effect July 1. Public Utilities Commission ordered suspension to await the July hearing. Local committees in Culooka and Mt. Pleasant are urged to report pledges and funds, as the proposed tolls would make a message from Columbia to Spring Hill or Mt. Pleasant cost a dime, and Mt. Pleasant to Spring Hill or Culleoka twenty cents.
