A national commander of the American Legion died in an automobile accident in Indianapolis. The crash stunned veterans as authorities investigated causes, while tributes poured in from posts nationwide.
Frederick W. Gailbraith national commander of the American Legion was killed in an automobile accident after addressing a meeting at the Legion's National Headquarters in Indianapolis. Milton J. Forman and Henry Ryan were seriously injured. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was among the speakers. President Harding sent sympathy to Mrs Gailbraith.
Mexico City reports President Obregon will stand firm on demands before recognizing the United States. An authoritative statement says he will insist on American recognition of Mexico as a what for future negotiations, outlining the scope of Mexico’s terms.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Agnes Ingram who died at her home near Green's Mill Tuesday afternoon are postponed to 2 o'clock Friday. The arrangements, pending the arrival of her father W. M. Kerr of Paleworth Texas, will be held at the Methodist church in Neahwon.
Desperadoes unleash heavy gunfire in a hold up attempt that ends with two policemen killed. A lone hold up man is believed to be the suspect, pursued by authorities. The incident occurred today, prompting a broad manhunt and investigations by local law enforcement.
A hunted man evaded arrest as officers used sulfur candies to coax him from a lair. The landlady reported the man warned he would kill anyone who sought his capture. Authorities pressed the man’s arrest while residents described tense pursuit and improvised tactics.

Lieutenant W. B. Brown of Tab o, marine officer, was killed when his airplane fell into the water today at Colonial Head Virginia as reported by the navy department The brief dispatch notes the loss occurred during a flight over the water with no further details provided.
Winners announced for the Globe Furnishing Co event held May 1. Miss Cordie Hardison of Columbia Route 4 won first prize a Nappanee kitchen cabinet with 59 percent of votes. Second prize a $36 suit went to T. W. Pinerts of Hohenwald with 256 votes. Third prize a $25 dress went to W. J Weatherford of Mt. Pleasant Route 1 with 161 votes. The contest boosted Bear Creek area support and spurred plans for future contests.
Paris dispatch reports Crown Prince Hirohito of Japan telling United Press he hopes to visit the United States soon. He says he has long desired to visit America and believes joint efforts can foster peace and mutual benefit worldwide.
