Rich Bentley a Black man about forty five years old struck and fatally injured his wife Willie Bentley near John Cates home on Mt Pleasant pike during a quarrel over attention from other Black people. He fled after dropping a public safety item and was last seen in Cross Bridges. Willie Bentley described as a good servant.

Tax collections for the past year exceed all previous records in Maury County. Delinquent lists are smaller, though errors persist. land sales rose to 725.05, up from 572.29. Trustee Adkisson will report to the county court next Monday with delinquencies around 1,657.46 and total collections near 186,000, about 10,000 higher than last year. The first district reports the fewest delinquents, with the tenth district the smallest list at 18.90 and the seventh district the largest at 123.86 outside Mt Pleasant and 8449 in town.

Abutting Taxes for New Highway Levyed
At a county court meeting an abutting tax of eighty cents per one hundred dollars valuation was levied on property along the new highway from Kedron and Bally Hill to Neapolis. Taxpayers asked credits for road subscriptions, but credits were not granted and the tax applied to all properties equally.

Richard A. Wilkes, manager of the Cullooka Mooresville and Columbia turnpikes, paid the privilege tax on two gates as the first toll gate manager in Maury county to settle the levy.
