County stock inspectors report 600 infections tied to western horses. The outbreak centers on Fe Ver tick exposure with risk to livestock and regional herds. Authorities urge monitoring and quarantine measures to prevent spread.
Elder J. M. Pallias of Lewisburg conducts a two week revival at the First Christian Church in Columbia with Prof. Klingman assisting. Services run daily at 2 30 pm and 7 pm, drawing strong crowds and highlighting Pallias as a renowned Christian church scholar and preacher.
Several new back tax cases were filed in the chancery court Saturday afternoon by W. J. Towler back tax attorney. One suit was brought against J. H. Carpenter executor of the Howard estate for taxes for the year just closed. Additional cases of lesser interest were noted.
Vernon Wilson a fourteen year old boy blamed for breaking into Olle Marshals store and other misdeeds in Campbell Station faced the sheriff’s charge last week. Judge McKnight planned to investigate and consider reform school placement. He fled Sunday, returned to Campbell Station, and was later captured and jailed by court officers.
Docket shows Minnie Hiley murder case set for Tuesday in the circuit court. Visiting attorneys in the courtroom include Duam T. Bates of Centreville and G. (last name unreadable). The docket lists several criminal cases being tried and ongoing court actions as the term proceeds.
W R Hamilton of the Tennessee anti saloon league returns from a state tour. He says crime has been commercialized in three cities and officials protect violators, prompting a statewide appeal to mobilize temperance forces for enforcement. Rural indignation grows as towns defy state law.
Richard H. Gordon of De Copper Dore mus has bought the stock exchange membership formerly held by B E Rosenblatt for 66000 dollars, representing De Copper Doremus in the board room. The Thompson membership is posted for transfer to Lucius Wilmerding.
Nashville Tenn November 27 1910 13 year old Joe Crawford colored was paroled by Governor Hooper. He was convicted in Knox county in 1910 on larceny and sentenced to three years in the penitentiary.
Deputy Hob Harmon rounded up Peter Plank, described as a road escape, in Nashville yesterday and sent him to the road this morning. Special Officer Rigsby detained two hoboes, William P. Lascoe and Frank Hoffman, and sent them to the road this morning.
The Century Club ladies reviewed the theme Woman in Politics with papers by Mrs. W. M. Chaffin and Miss Carrie Williams. They cited Ann Hutchinson and Abigail Adams, discussed suffrage, and noted mothers' influence on children and family health as history shows women ennoble their roles.
A Nashville report confirms the death of Robert Orr aged about seventy five of Orr Mizell and Co. He married Miss Mayes, sister to Mrs. Sam Watkins of Zion, and Mrs. Orr survives him. The burial will be in Nashville.
Two Mt Pleasant lot sales held Friday and Saturday drew strong demand despite bad weather. Harris and Long additions shifted over a hundred residences with total sales near 3500 dollars, and many buyers plan immediate construction for rental or occupancy as a building boom looms.
Lafayette Chapter No 4 Royal Arch Masons met in a called session to confer the most excellent master’s degree and companion. After floor work the lodge adjourned to the reception hall for refreshments. The Judge is summoned again next Monday to confer the Betage Arch degree.
The Nov 28 report from Chillicothe describes Dudley Payne a deceased black man who gradually turned white in skin in a baffling case. Splotches began on his hands then spread to the upper body leaving his face and torso markedly white at death. The incident is to be reported to the National Medical Society to learn about the skin condition.
A car plunged from a ferry into the Hudson River and an unidentified ferry passenger was drowned when the crash released the starting lever. The victim's body did not reappear after the incident at the New York pier.
Edward Smith, a 30 year old blind hunter from the North Carolina mountains, was accidentally shot at Saginaw lumber camp in Bristol. He stumbled crossing a culvert on a fiber tramway. the hammer of his gun discharged, entering his right breast. He died within minutes.
