He will represent the school with the same speech. Be Ayers Jr. of Spring Hill named substitute. Events included musical numbers and field day results on Campbell Field with multiple sprint, distance, and field events recorded.
Nashville April 18 Gov Frasier announces his staff, naming Adjutant-General Harvey H Hiumah Inspector General L D Tyson Commissary General J H Hardwick etc. The roster includes Colonels Harvey Alexander H Gouchenoar S Ly King W T Gass George B Milton W W McGuire and others from Greeneville Bristol Knoxville Morristown Nashville and surrounding towns.
The Maury Charity Convention of Kings Daughters held a full day session in Mt. Pleasant on April 17. Mrs. Annie White, county secretary, called the meeting to discuss the work of the reg circles across the county with delegates from Columbia and Spring Hill.
In Nacville Tennessee executors of the Cole estate reveal a 60000 dollar plan to improve Napier Iron Works property including a new ore land near Pinkney and a railroad spur from Pinkney to the Nashville Florence and Sheffield line. Civil engineers under Robert Land depart Nashville to survey the site for development as a ready ore source. Senator W A Stewart of Davideau County announces candidacy for Nashville mayor.
The chancery court convened with Chancellor Bearden presiding. An ordinary docket lists 382 cases. forenoon devoted to preliminary call to gauge case status. In the afternoon the Columbia and Mt. Pleasant Turnpike Co lawsuit against Jade W. C. Gordon and others was tried seeking a temporary injunction.
Crockett Owen returns from Dallas Houston San Antonio and Beaumont. He describes Beaumont as a tough town with many oil wells crowded into a five acre area where logs of derricks poke through each other. He notes the region is busy with rascals but praises Texans as bustling and progressive while seeking the dollar.
Raehi the wild man from Martinique, once Cagey Young of Columbia, returned from Bessemer Alabama after his managers deserted him and hunger forced the journey. He told locals he would not pursue wild men from Martiniqe and plans to stay home for a while.
Covington Tennessee April 17 saloonmen and merchants challenge the Adams law as the Adams bill nears passage. Local courts hear the liquor license dispute with J B Rutherford Payne brothers Cueno Cleale and Earl Nathan Co. cited to trial after being cited for noncompliance. Parties released on own recognizance as immediate trial is sought while saloons remain open.
The Commercial Appeal notes a ruling requiring collectors of internal revenue to publicly display the list of all persons who paid special taxes in their district. The notice, filed at the Federal building, cites deputy director Melviney and the IRS archive, warning blind tigers face stricter scrutiny in Tennessee.
