Boots fill for new Colfax fire engine fundraiser
The City of Colfax Volunteer Firefighters Association held the first of two Fill the Boot fundraisers last Friday raising 3813 dollars in three hours toward a new Type III fire engine. The unit, costing at least 50000 dollars refurbished, would be smaller, more maneuverable, and include a foam unit for protecting homes from embers.

Fires engulf two Colfax area homes in separate blaze
Two fires broke within three hours near Colfax on Tuesday afternoon. At 2:30 p.m. a 4000 square foot home along Knolls Road and Magnolia Road near Lake of the Pines in Auburn burned as wind drove flames across seven acres. Firefighters, aided by air tankers and water tenders, saved a nearby home. no injuries were reported. Mop up continued into Wednesday.

Kiwanis Family House provides temporary shelter and emotional support for families of seriously ill children at UC Davis Medical Center. Located on campus with 13 bedrooms, two kitchens, and access to amenities, the facility charges $15 per night with many families staying free due to financial hardship. Regions served include distant locations like Damascus, Syria, as well as nearby communities.

Colfax artist Jim Bowers unveils The Terrasphere at Burning Man in Black Rock Desert, a 35 000 viewer interactive EL wire planet display created with The Tribe of about 60 artists.
