Interstate 80 resurfacing projects begin in California
Caltrans starts 35 miles of I 80 resurfacing between Newcastle and Emigrant Gap from summer through late 2006. Total $74 million funds upgrades including truck climbing lane near Blue Canyon, guard rail replacement, rest stop improvements, and new center dividers. Teichert Construction won $40.46 million contract to grind four inches and apply rubberized asphalt containing recycled tires. 90,000 tires used, enough to stretch 43 miles if lined end to end.
