Colfax Freight Depot’s rail history reshaped by 1905 move
Colfax’s 124 year history centers on the Freight Depot built in 1880 beside Main Street. It moved in 1905 to the east of the mainline, eliminating cross-track shunting by NCNG cars. Between 1910 and 1920 tracks were straightened, an engine house and yard expanded, and by 1915 the depot moved again to its current site with a new transfer shed placed in the yard area away from the depot.
