Colfax High names top students as valedictorians
Colfax High School announces Class of 2004 valedictorians Susie Sventosch. Kate Root and Thomas Fulenwider earned top honors with 4.0 GPAs and at least ten honors courses. Root led as student body president and played varsity volleyball. Fulenwider joined the EAST program and varsity men’s soccer, winning multiple scholarships totaling over 120000.

Colfax crosses memorial honor Iraq war dead
Colfax Arts Council and wartime veteran Mel Henderson organized about 806 white crosses on park slopes to honor 800 plus U S soldiers who died in Iraq. The project cost around 300 dollars and featured a bagpipe salute. Eight Women in Black from Nevada City observed a silent vigil.

Former principal and student now colleagues at Sierra College
Retired Colfax Elementary School principal Alan Shuttleworth and former student Katie Hunter Lucero were hired as full time assistant professors at Sierra College. Shuttleworth, who also works part time at Grass Valley, now shares a table with his former pupil in the English department. Lucero, valedictorian of Colfax High in 1997, holds degrees from Cal State San Luis Obispo and is nearing completion of a teaching credential.

Colfax Record Earns Blue Ribbon Finalist Honors in CNPA Contest
Colfax Record collects two awards from the California Newspaper Publishers Association for the 2003 Better Newspapers Contest. The paper is a Blue Ribbon Finalist in General Excellence, top 10 percent of nearly 5,000 entries. Mike Ray wins in Sports Story for Falcons seal the deal covering Colfax High football’s 2003 section title over Oakdale.

Colfax Community Pool Gets Cosmetic Facelift
Colfax Community Pool, opened in the early 1960s with help from the Colfax Soroptimists and local clubs, has a new paint facelift by a volunteer group led by Christine Alexander. City funds supported fiberglass resurfacing last year and parents with local business backing painted outbuildings this year, aided by donations and play group volunteers.
