Designated drivers urged to curb drunk driving in 2003
Our View argues designated drivers offer a solution to a deadly problem. It cites California Highway Patrol data showing 3,926 traffic deaths in 2001 from alcohol related crashes, including 1,308 drunk driving fatalities. In Placer County 14 deaths and 318 injuries occurred, with 1,708 people jailed for drunk driving that year. The piece urges starting 2003 with a designated driver to prevent tragedies and jail time.
