State budget threatens Placer County courts
Placer County Superior Court Judge James Garbolino warned that across the board state budget cuts may force the closure of either Colfax or Lincoln courts, with Colfax likely to stay open. He noted the state now funds judges while employees and the court system shifted from county control. Plans include replacing World War II era DeWitt barracks courts and constructing a new Roseville court complex to serve growth. Financial strain delayed holiday operations and questions remain on funding for projected demand, as the county has 13 judges versus a state-recommended 20 for current population.
