Elvis impersonator meets Priscilla Presley amid cancer battle
Grass Valley resident Mike Bryant, a 30 year Elvis impersonator, met Priscilla Presley after being referred by the Dream Foundation. The 49 year old masonry contractor, diagnosed with lung cancer, says the visit lasted three hours and inspired more charity work. He has supported hospice care muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy through his performances.

Holiday traffic creates highway headaches in high country
California Highway Patrol Gold Run officers logged seven crashes during the February holiday weekend. On February 7 a 1997 Ford Explorer left the eastbound I 80 center divider at Rainbow, injuring Amarchimeg Davaasuren and Gundsuren Solar. Davaasuren, 23, received moderate injuries. Solar, 54, was airlifted to Sutter Hospital with major injuries. A second incident on February 9 near Colfax involved a noninjury collision between a big rig and a Jeep Cherokee on I 80 westbound.

Community backs mother of four after December fire
A Colfax community response to a December house fire that destroyed a Oak Street duplex has grown into a large outpouring of help for Natalie Bangert and her four children. Donations include furniture, clothing, appliances, toys, food, a computer, and more as Bangert prepares to move into a new home next week. Natalie, a Soroptimist Woman's Opportunity Award winner, juggles two jobs at Curves and Sierra Business Service while volunteers continue to assist and donate.
