Payne proposes Colfax growth with mall upgrades and new projects
Developer Jim Aten and representatives presented Payne’s Colfax vision to the city council and planning commission in a nearly two hour session. With no quorum, council actions were not taken as Mayor Sharon Gieras and Councilman Joshua Alpine attended. Payne was absent, sending a letter via Lyn Centner noting city leadership’s aim to move Colfax positively, not just to profit. About 15 to 20 attendees heard plans for preserving history, boosting tourism, and expanding services including renovated Cape View Tavern, Sierra Fuel Station, Starbucks, Drooling Dog Bar-B-Q, Colfax Mall upgrades, and a second story expansion for more tenants, plus approval of Colfax Auto Plaza to be built in 3-4 months. Centner cautioned some projects will take longer, and one hotel renovation may be unlikely to recoup costs.

Hometown Christmas Festivities Shine Despite Rain Risks
Hometown Christmas Festivities went ahead with a Craft Faire at Roy Toms Plaza and a Santa arrival at 3 p.m. The Soroptimist Old Fashioned Soup Kitchen, now on Saturday, served 30 volunteers and a double batch of clam chowder, aided by Colfax High’s S club. Local families enjoyed music by the Begin Family Fiddlers, snacks, and holiday greetings as neighbors connected.

Meadow Vista Municipal Advisory Council met December 2 at Placer Hills School to hear reports on fire water and traffic.
